Formed by world reknown keyboardist\u00a0<strong>Jim Alfredson<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>organissimo, Dirty Fingers, Janiva Magness, Greg Nagy Band, Root Doctor<\/strong>)\u00a0<strong>THEO<\/strong>\u00a0harkens back to the keyboard-centric superbands of the 1970s like\u00a0<strong>Yes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Genesis<\/strong>, and\u00a0<strong>Emerson Lake and Palmer<\/strong>, but with a distinctly modern and bold approach.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Alfredson<\/strong>\u00a0is joined by bassist\u00a0<strong>Gary Davenport<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>805 Band, Janiva Magness<\/strong>), drummer\u00a0<strong>Kevin Depree<\/strong>\u00a0(<strong>Sound Is Red, Greg Nagy Band<\/strong>) and guitarist\u00a0<strong>Jake Reichbart<\/strong>. The eponymous debut album features six tracks including an epic 30 minute opening suite.<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\"><strong>Jim Alfredson<\/strong>\u00a0is best known for his work with acclaimed jazz trio\u00a0<strong>organissimo<\/strong>\u00a0and is considered among the best Hammond organists working today. As Downbeat magazine wrote, \u201c<em><strong>Alfredson<\/strong>\u00a0is a remarkable organist who seamlessly synthesizes several generations of keyboard influences\u2026<\/em>\u201d Keyboard magazine, in reviewing\u00a0<strong>organissimo<\/strong>\u2018s album\u00a0<em><strong>Alive &amp; Kickin\u2019<\/strong><\/em>, wrote that\u00a0<strong>Alfredson\u00a0<\/strong>\u201c<em>successfully walk[s] the line between complex and accessible\u2026<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n<p style=\"color: #000000;\">With\u00a0<strong>THEO<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Alfredson<\/strong>\u00a0brings his considerable musicianship to bear on his first love, progressive rock. As\u00a0<strong>Alfredson<\/strong>\u00a0explains: \u201c<em>I grew up listening to\u00a0<strong>Peter Gabriel<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Genesis<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Yes<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Jethro Tull<\/strong>,<strong>King Crimson<\/strong>,\u00a0<strong>Gentle Giant<\/strong>\u2026 all the classic prog bands. I even made my own prog \u2018album\u2019 when I was 16 that I passed out to friends and family. But then I was bitten by the jazz bug and dedicated the next 17 years of my life to figuring out that music. Surprisingly, that education paved the road back to progressive music, back to my love of synthesizers and exploring different musical forms. I feel like my musical journey has brought me full circle.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/l_6OXW_cDO0?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><br \/>\n<strong>THEO<\/strong>\u00a0also represents a return to the concept of the keyboardist as a vital and irreplaceable part of the group, rather than a mere sideman. \u201c<em>Most prog these days is metal-based,<\/em>\u201d says\u00a0<strong>Alfredson<\/strong>, \u201c<em>and there\u2019s nothing wrong with that. But I feel like it\u2019s past time keyboardists get our due again. My primary influence is\u00a0<strong>Tony Banks<\/strong>; his melodicism, his understatedness, his lyricism, and his use of timbre. There\u2019s a time and a place for flashiness and there\u2019s a time and place for subtlety.\u00a0<strong>THEO<\/strong>\u00a0is a manifestation of that belief. It should be about the song first, putting that song within a certain atmosphere, and then exploring.<\/em>\u201c<\/p>\n<p><strong>THEO<\/strong>\u2018s intrepid and dynamic music is paired with auspicious lyrical themes of corporatization, consumerism, loss of innocence, exile, and the obsession with celebrity. Lead vocals are handled by\u00a0<strong>Alfredson<\/strong>\u00a0himself.
