{"id":104,"date":"2013-09-27T08:24:54","date_gmt":"2013-09-27T08:24:54","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jimalfredson.com\/?page_id=104"},"modified":"2013-09-27T08:26:09","modified_gmt":"2013-09-27T08:26:09","slug":"ventilator-shoot-out-2","status":"publish","type":"page","link":"https:\/\/jimalfredson.com\/?page_id=104","title":{"rendered":"Ventilator Shoot-Out"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;ve seen the following video on YouTube, where I compare a real Leslie 122 to the Neo Instruments Ventilator, you&#8217;ve probably come here to see if you&#8217;re answers to which clip is which are correct.<\/p>\n<p><span class=\"embed-youtube\" style=\"text-align:center; display: block;\"><iframe loading=\"lazy\" class=\"youtube-player\" width=\"584\" height=\"329\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/wUvsgeshzDY?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en-US&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent\" allowfullscreen=\"true\" style=\"border:0;\" sandbox=\"allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation\"><\/iframe><\/span><\/p>\n<p>Well, here you go!<\/p>\n<p><strong>A<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Hammond XM2 internal sim<br \/>\n<strong>B<\/strong>\u00a0&#8211; Neo Instruments Ventilator<br \/>\n<strong>C<\/strong>&#8211; Real Leslie 122<\/p>\n<p>Here&#8217;s a special note of interest from Ventilator creator Guido Kirsch:<\/p>\n<p><em>&#8220;Something to think about that most people have overlooked so far:\u00a0The\u00a0Ventilator\u00a0doesn&#8217;t simulate the room where the the virtual leslie is in!\u00a0This is intentional, since the room adds ambience when you play over an amp and hear the\u00a0Ventilator from a distance &#8211; \u00a0like a real leslie.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>Over headphones or when hearing a recording of the direct line out, the sound can be too dry.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>To have a fair comparison you would have to play the\u00a0Ventilator\u00a0over an adequate amp in the same room the leslie sits in and mike that up, to give the recording a &#8220;room sound&#8221;. Alternatively a reverb processor with a small \u00a0room setting might also work.&#8221;<\/em><\/p>\n<p>I think the point Guido makes is important. In fact, the lack of room ambiance is really the only difference I can hear between the Ventilator and a real 122 in most circumstances.
