Harvey Mason is one of the most lauded and recorded drummers of all time, having appeared on hundreds of award-winning jazz, pop, and fusion albums throughout his long career. For decades he has been the drummer and percussionist of choice for musicians as diverse as George Benson, Bob James, Herbie Hancock, Seals & Crofts, Robben Ford, Bill Withers, Earl Klugh, Freddie Hubbard, Dionne Warwick, Seal, John Legend, Beck, Sergio Mendes, Beyonce, and countless others.
Mason attended Berklee and graduated from the New England Conservatory. Early gigs included four months with Erroll Garner in 1970 and a year with George Shearing from 1970-1971. Soon after leaving Shearing, Mason moved to Los Angeles and quickly became established in the studio scene, also working in films and television. He paired up with Herbie Hancock for the seminal album Headhunters, as well as George Benson’s breakout hit album Breezin’. Since the early 2000s he has expanded his role in the studio as a producer and composer, and formed the jazz fusion supergroup Fourplay.
Appearing with Michigan organ phenom Jim Alfredson and Detroit guitar virtuoso Lawrence Barris, both members of the famed trio organissimo, Harvey Mason brings his inimitable groove to the Wealthy Theatre for an evening of original music combining funk, R&B, Latin, and traditional jazz flavors. This will be an unforgettable evening of fantastic, feel good music. A meet and greet is scheduled after the performance.
